This is a dynamic and interactive course that addresses when police chiefs, public safety directors, and sheriffs are entitled to absolute governmental immunity under Michigan law. This course provides extensive guidelines for employers in drafting job descriptions for its police chiefs and public safety directors so that they can better ensure that their actions undertaken within the scope of their executive authority will be shielded by the immunity provisions contained in the Michigan Governmental Tort Liability Act. The course includes in depth analysis of recent court decisions regarding the breadth and scope of governmental immunity, and when police chiefs, directors, and sheriffs are entitled to absolute immunity for their actions, as opposed to more limited immunity provided to most law enforcement and governmental employees.
